Monroe County Executive Adam Bello today announced that Superintendent of Highways Thomas Frys has ordered the Gillett Road bridge over the abandoned CSX Transportation/New York Central Railroad line in Ogden be closed indefinitely beginning at 9 a.m. Dec. 6. A recent state Department of Transportation inspection of the CSX- owned span revealed potential structural deficiencies that could pose a threat to public safety.

In January 2023, after CSX failed to take action on a state-issued “red flag” for the bridge, county crews installed barrels along the bridge to shift traffic away from the span’s outside girders. State DOT issues a “red flag” warning when inspectors determine the failure or potential failure of a primary structural bridge component is likely to occur within two years of the current inspection.

Follow-up analysis of the structure determined the best course of action would be for the county to close the bridge.

The Town of Ogden, Ogden Police Department, Spencerport Central School District and Spencerport Fire District, as well as other emergency service providers have been notified of the closure.

Motorists are advised to detour using Big Ridge, Manitou and Spencerport roads. The detour will be posted.
