Human Services Employment Programs

Monroe County Department of Human Services is committed to building a strong workforce in our community. Our Employment or Self-Sufficiency Workgroup works with all public assistance applicants and recipients to assist them in acheiving their highest level of self-sufficiency using individualized approaches that meets people where they are.

For Employable individuals we offer opportunities to increase skills through activities such as: training, supervised job search and work experience programs. Individuals will be referred to community providers to provide services which may include:

  • Individualized Employment Assessments
  • Work Experience internships
  • Vocational Education, Job Skills, and Educational Training
  • Job Readiness Training 
  • Supportive and Diversion services including; Childcare, Transportation, Tools, Licensing Fees, Uniforms and more
  • Post Employment supports including Transitional Benefits

The Department of Human Services (DHS) received funding from New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) to operate subsidized employment initiatives to help ease the burden for employers hiring new employees. The initiatives provide funding to reimburse up to 100% of the wages for qualified new employees in the following areas:

Transitional Employment Assistance Program (TEAP)

TEAP is an “On-the-Job Training” program designed to offset the cost of hiring and training a new employee. Qualified employers may be reimbursed up to 50% of the new hire’s wages for up three months from the date of hire. Industries eligible to participate include, but are not limited to:

  • Child care
  • Manufacturing
  • Customer Service
  • Health care
  • Social and human services
  • Retail and hospitality
  • Clerical administrative assistance
  • Transportation
  • Construction/outdoor maintenance
