Monroe County Executive Adam Bello announced today that the Monroe County Veterans Day parade will return for its second year on Saturday, November 11, 2023. The parade will kick-off at 10:30 a.m. at the corner of South Goodman Street and Highland Avenue and proceed up Highland Avenue to the Greater Rochester Vietnam Veterans Memorial on South Avenue in Gary Beikirch Memorial Park.

“The bravery and service of our veterans ensure we are the greatest country in the world. In Monroe County, we celebrate our local service members—past and present—who have given so much in defense of our country,” said County Executive Bello. “I encourage all Monroe County residents to join us November 11 for the county’s Veterans Day Parade to celebrate and honor the heroes in our community.”

Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter, an Army veteran, will serve as the parade’s Grand Marshal. Sheriff Baxter is a 35-year veteran of law enforcement, with 22 years of service to the Rochester Police Department and four years’ experience as Chief of Police in the Greece Police Department.

“This Veterans Day we honor all of the men and women who have served our great country, in times of war and peace,” said Sheriff Baxter. “We are especially appreciative of the more than 32,000 veterans who live amongst us in Monroe County. It is my privilege to have served our nation, witness my son currently serving, and to represent all of our veterans as we celebrate their sacrifice, patriotism, love of country and selfless service to others. That is the grit this country is made of and the commitment in every one of you.”

The family-oriented event will kick off with a morning family stretch with Ashley Mittiga and free coffee from 9:00 a.m.-10:00 am followed by the start of the parade featuring over a dozen local marching bands. Additionally, Grease Alley Painted Clowns will be handing out American flags and making balloon animals prior to the parade and on the parade route.

A gathering featuring music and local food vendors will immediately follow at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Families are invited to participate in the following:

  • "Kiddie Kammando" obstacle course with prizes
  • Free F-4 Phantom Cockpit photo opportunity
  • Food trucks including Wraps on Wheels and Tuscan Wood Fired Pizza Catering
  • Face painting by the Grease Paint Alley Clowns
  • Local staged special Military, police, fire and ambulance equipment

There will be a special performance from Greece native and world-renowned entertainer Jason Ostrowski, as well as a flyover from the legendary C47 Whiskey-7 from the National Warplane Museum and an honor ceremony with Military Salute and Taps.
