Level 2 chargers are 8 times faster than Level 1 chargers
Monroe County Executive Adam Bello today announced the installation of electric vehicle charging stations at nine county-owned locations. Each location is open to the public and will help support the use of clean vehicle technology across the county. The project is funded with grants from New York State’s Department of Environmental Conservation.
Each location has multiple charging stations and allows up to four vehicles to charge at a time. The locations that are currently operating are located at:

The cost to the public for using the charging stations is $2.25 per hour, and can be accessed using a mobile app. The fee will cover the cost of energy use and maintenance.
“These new, state-of-the-art charging stations will serve residents who choose to drive electric vehicles, and make it convenient for them to recharge while they’re visiting our parks, going to school, or enjoying a ballgame,” said County Executive Bello. “By investing in this type of infrastructure, we’re also fulfilling some of the commitments we made as part of the County’s Climate Action Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
The project will help expand the clean energy infrastructure that is available for public use in Monroe County. The use of electric vehicles locally contributes to improved air quality. Electric
vehicles help achieve the County’s climate initiatives, and encouraging the use of electric vehicles helps pave the way for other forms of clean transportation.
A Level 1 charger will typically get 4 miles of driving range per hour of charge. A Level 2 charger will get an average of 32 miles of driving range per hour of charge. This means that charging up to 8 times faster with a Level 2 charging station. Typical charging time for a Level 2 EV charger is around 3-8 hours from empty to full, while the average Level 1 EV charger will take 11-20 hours to fully charge.
