As smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to affect air quality in Monroe County, masks will be made available at libraries and DMV offices

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello today announced free protective masks will be made available to residents at area libraries and Department of Motor Vehicles Offices as smoke and haze from Canadian wildfires continues to affect air quality throughout our region.
“Smoke from Canadian wildfires is affecting our area again today and it’s likely this will continue to happen intermittently in coming weeks,” said County Executive Bello. “Fine particulate matter in the smoke can cause negative health impacts for some residents, which is why I’m making high-quality masks available to the public. I encourage residents who are sensitive to this smoke to take precautions and limit their exposure to outdoor air when necessary.”
County Executive Bello partnered with County Clerk Jamie Romeo to make masks available at all area Department of Motor Vehicles Offices.
“If and when unhealthy levels of smoke return to the Rochester region, residents can come in and pick up free masks at all four local DMV locations,” said Clerk Romeo. “We thank County Executive Bello for his partnership and encourage those spending time outside to be safe.”
Residents are encouraged to monitor air quality levels by visiting airnow.gov or monroecounty.gov.
