Description of Duties

This is an administrative position in the Parks Department responsible for directing the operations of the zoological facility and Seneca Park Zoo including program development and evaluation, budget preparation and staff supervision.  Provides expertise to and assists with other Zoological programs operated by the Zoo Society, including programming, public relations, education volunteer, fundraising and food and gift concessions.  The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of the Parks Director with wide leeway for independence.  General Supervision is exercised over administrative and labor positions.  Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, PLUS either: 

(A)  Seven (7) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as zoologist, zoo curator ,or in the direction of zoological park programs and activities two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR,

(B)  Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s degree in Zoology or Biology or a closely related field, or in a field involving the study and care of animals, plus five (5) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as described in (A) above; OR,

(C)  Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Zoology or Biology or a closely related field, or in a field involving the study and care of animals, plus three (3) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as described in (A) above; OR,

(D)  Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master's degree in Zoology or Biology or a closely related field, or in a field involving the study and care of animals, plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as described in (A) above; OR,

(E)   An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), (C) and (D) above.
