Community Affairs Specialist

Description of Duties

This is a professional position in the field of community relations which involves responsibility for the development and communication of information designed to keep the public informed of the agency's programs, accomplishments and position on current issues and to promote the good will of the organization. Work is performed under direct supervision of an Administrator. Supervision of others is not the responsibility of this class.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements on or before the date of the written exam: 

EITHER:

1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, English, Communications or a closely related field, plus one (1) year of paid full time or its part time equivalent* experience in preparing news releases, coordinating news conferences/special events and speech writing; OR,
2. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree, plus two (2) years of experience as described in A above; OR,
3. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, English, Communications or a closely related field, plus six (6) months of experience as described in (A) above, OR;
4. Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C) above.
