Description of Duties

This is a clerical position in the County Clerk's office responsible for reviewing, recording, cashiering and indexing a variety of legal documents. This position differs from the lower, Assistant Recording Clerk, by virtue of its responsibilities for reviewing documents and responsibility for performing more complex assignments.  The employee reports directly to and works under general supervision of a supervisory staff member. Lead supervision may be exercised over subordinate clerks.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements on or before the date of the written exam: 

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:

  1. Three (3) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* clerical experience, two (2) years must have involved data input and typing; OR,
  2. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* clerical experience that involved data input and typing; OR,
  3. Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

Note:  One (1) year of college education (30 credit hours) is equivalent to six (6) months of the general experience required.  Two (2) years of college education is equivalent to one (1) year of the general experience required.

In no case will education beyond two (2) years substitute for more than one (1) year of required work experience.  In all cases one (1) year of experience involving data input and typing must be demonstrated.
