Description of Duties

This is a management position in the Department of Environmental Services, responsible for directing a Stormwater Management Program designed to ensure compliance with the State Pollution Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) permit program. They are responsible for oversight of the stormwater hydrology and water quality to protect the various watersheds in Monroe County.  The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of the Deputy Director of Environmental Services.  General supervision is exercised over a technical staff in the Environmental Quality Office.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements on or before the date of the written exam: 

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:

  1. Graduation with a Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science/Management or a closely related field, plus five (5) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience in wastewater/stormwater/water resource management, environmental engineering/analysis, three (3) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity; OR,
  2. Graduation with an Associate's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science/Management or a closely related field, plus seven (7) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience as defined in (A) above; three (3) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity; OR,
  3. Any equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

Note: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. Special Requirements:

If you are appointed, you will be required to possess a valid license to operate a vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate your capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.
