Monroe County Executive Adam Bello is pleased to announce that American Airlines will add nonstop seasonal service from Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) to Miami International Airport (MIA). The service to MIA will begin on November 7, 2020. These flights will operate Saturday only on Embraer 175, 76-seat aircraft. The route will operate through April 3, 2021. This represents 22 additional nonstop flights to Florida than during this same period in 2020.

This will be the first time that ROC has had continuous nonstop service to MIA. MIA is American’s largest international gateway and has service to over 70 cities across the Caribbean and Latin America.

"This is exciting news. A new nonstop American Airlines flight from Rochester to Miami will be an affordable, convenient way for residents to travel to Florida and points beyond,” said Monroe County Executive Adam Bello. “I know our airport staff continues to take the proper precautions to ensure travelers’ health and safety remains a top priority. I am grateful to American Airlines for their continued investment in our market and hope our snowbirds and travelers will consider these new flight options."

"We know how important access to Miami is, especially during the cold winter months,” said Brian Znotins, American’s Vice President of Network Planning. “Non-stop flights to MIA mean just one stop to the Caribbean and Latin America for beautiful escapes, and we look forward to providing that convenience for our customers in Rochester."

Passengers can begin booking tickets today online at www.aa.com. Strong passenger support of these nonstop flights demonstrates that our community can support additional nonstop service in the future. American Airlines schedules are subject to change based on demand and conditions due to COVID-19.

The Greater Rochester International Airport continues to take extra precautions to promote health and safety at the airport with the #ReadySetROC initiative. We have introduced new procedures and preparations as air travel begins to slowly grow as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic. Ongoing #ReadySetROC initiatives include enhanced cleaning, additional hand sanitizing stations, face covering policies, social distancing markers and reminders, plastic shields at all public counters and other educational materials.

Through the American Clean Commitment, the airline is protecting passengers’ health during the pandemic with multiple layers of protection, including enhanced cleaning of American’s spaces in airports and its airplanes and enforcement of its face coverings policy. And in the coming months, American will be the first U.S. airline to start deploying SurfaceWise2, a breakthrough EPA-approved antiviral protectant. This antimicrobial surface coating will help protect passengers and crew members against transmission via surfaces particularly on high-touch areas such as seats, armrests, tray tables and overhead bin doors.
