Monroe County Executive Adam Bello announced today that Monroe County police agencies will participate in a special enforcement effort to crack down on impaired driving.

The statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown efforts start on May 22nd and will end on May 26th. Memorial Day is traditionally one of the busiest travel holidays of the year and marks the official start of summer.  New York State Police, County Sheriffs and municipal law enforcement agencies will collaborate across the state and will be out in force in this coordinated effort to reduce the number of impaired driving-related injuries and deaths.

"I am pleased our County law enforcement agencies are joining together to help keep impaired drivers off the roads this holiday weekend," said Monroe County Executive Adam Bello. "There is no excuse for drunk or impaired driving. If your Memorial Day weekend plans include alcohol, please be safe and responsible, find a safe way to get back home and don't drink and drive."

Remember during this special weekend to always drive safe and sober to keep community members injury free, said Peggy Duffy, STOP-DWI Coordinator.

The STOP-DWI Memorial Day Weekend Crackdown is one of many statewide enforcement initiatives promoted by the New York State STOP-DWI Association with additional funding from the STOP-DWI Foundation courtesy of the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee.  The Statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown Campaign also targets the 4th of July, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Holiday Season, Super Bowl weekend and St. Patrick's Day.

Highly visible, highly publicized efforts like the STOP-DWI Crackdown Campaign aim to further reduce the incidence of drunk and impaired driving.
